FAQ
- 1. Do I need to make a booking to use the Gyro300 Autosampler instrument?
- No, this system still works on a first come, first served basis with a different billing system
- 2. What if I book a block of time and finish early?
- When you have finished on the instrument, cancel your booking from the start of the next full hour. You may still be charged for what you had reserved unless someone else then uses the time. Advise Dr Shasha as soon as you know this will happen.
- 3. What if someone has booked an hour long slot and does not use all of it. Can I use the remaining time?
- Yes. If you can finish within this hour long period, you do not need to reserve the instrument. If you go into the next hour, you must make a reservation. Whoever is using the instrument at the start of an hour long slot should have booked that slot.
- 4. What if I use the instrument without making a reservation?
- You will be given a warning initially but the Facility reserves the right to fine and bar repeat offenders!
- 5. Can I use ICONNMR software on Flip300 still?
- Yes. Just make the reservation as normal and start the iconnmr software. (Make sure that "iconnmr" is logged in then type "inmr" either in a shell or in xwinnmr to start ICONNMR)
- 6. What are priority days and can I make a booking on them?
- Priority days may be reserved in advance only by certain groups, usually the NMR Facility staff on Tuesdays and Wednesdays since some of the staff are here only on a part time basis. If a priority day has not been booked 24 hours in advance, any user may reserve that day. They may also be reserved after consultation with Facility staff if appropriate.
- 7. How does the billing system work?
- Essentially you are charged for the time you book.
If you make a reservation and then cancel it more than 24 hours before it is due to start, you will not be charged for the time.
- If you cancel with less than 24 hours advance warning, you will be charged for the time reserved unless someone else reserves some time.
- 8. How much do I pay for each instrument per hour?
- Charges depend on whether you are from the UNSW, another campus user or an outside industrial or government user.
- Contact Facility staff for the rate that applies to you.
Do's and Dont's
Use a bit of common sense in bookings!
If you want to reserve a short amount of time, start filling the schedule from the earliest point in the day, from 10am if possible. Do not book a single slot at 7pm well in advance, for example, as this will prevent others setting up longer runs. Obviously, if it's 3pm and no one has booked the overnight slot for that day, booking an hour at 7pm is quite reasonable
